Fabbing Up Edwin's S2K Roll Bar for NCRC

Edwin came to us with a specific request on how he wanted his roll bar built for the Northern California Racing Club (NCRC) organization. NCRC are advocates of well maintained cars and safe racing. They perform a "broomstick test" to determine if the factory roll protection is safe enough during a roll over. With helmet on and driver in the seated
position, the broomstick must clear the drivers helmet when placed on top of the windshield and roll hoop. Unfortunately, few S2000 owners pass this test. One method is to lower the drivers seating position, but only a couple inches are gained. The other is to increase the height of the roll bar were you can roughly get an additional four inches.

To further promote safety, NCRC offers a Safety Equipment Reimbursement Program whereby the owner can get a portion of their safety investment reimbursed. Edwin couldn't pass this incentive up, in fact no one should.

Here were Edwin's MUST HAVE's:
  1. Meet NCRC requirements
  2. Welded in
  3. Retain factory roll hoop protection along with aftermarket roll bar
  4. Ability to run soft top and/or hard top
  5. Proper height harness bar customized to his seating position
  6. Ability to use center compartments

While Edwin was studying hard at school, we mocked up the main hoop and rear down bars on Jei's S2000. It's important to note that these rear down bars are not considered legal in professional racing organizations as the rules do not allow for bends. Well aware of this and in this particular case, Edwin needed the bar to meet NCRC's required spec and it does just that.

If this car were to become a racecar in the future, the factory roll hoops and soft top would be taken out leaving us with the space to build a cage that is race spec just like this one.

Here the bar was painted and placed into Edwin's car. Note the height of the harness bar is low allowing for proper racing harness angle. Once we install the center storage compartment, it's ready for welding.

A shot from the rear.

With new safety mods, Edwin's now ready to participate in NCRC track events. He intends on competing in their Chrono S2000 Series which consists of a handful of the fastest NorCal S2000 club racers. Thank you Edwin and best of luck!
